Home decorating tips I learned from my mother | By Nikhil Pattani

Growing up, my mother always had a keen eye for home decor. She spent countless hours transforming our humble abode into a beautiful and cozy haven. As I grew older and moved into my own home, I could not help but reminisce about some of the best home decorating tips I learned from my mother. Here are some of my top picks!

1. Not everything needs to match

It's often thought that you need to choose one aesthetic when designing your home interior.

This is not the case. Collect things on your travels and buy things your love. Don't purchase items because you think they will look good. Buy things you love and they will always come together in your home.

2. Focus on Lighting

Lighting plays a crucial role in any home decor scheme. Consider the natural light that enters your home and then choose light fixtures that compliment it. Soft, warm lighting creates a cozy, welcoming atmosphere while cool lighting can make a room look more sterile.

3. Go Green

Indoor plants not only add color and dimension to your home decor but also purify the air. My mother always had a green thumb and was constantly adding plants to our home. From big leafy plants to small succulents, there is a range of indoor plants that can fit any decor style.

4. Use a Neutral Color Palette

Neutral colors like beige, white, and cream serve as the perfect backdrop for any home decor elements. These colors create a soothing environment and give you the flexibility to switch up the accessories and accents whenever you want.

5. Mix and Match Textures

Experimenting with different textures can add depth and interest to your home decor. Combining plush blankets, velvet pillows or even natural wood adds layers to a space. It gives the space a personal touch and makes it more inviting.

6. Add Art and Personal Touches

Adding art and personal touches can transform your home decor. A gallery wall of photos or paintings can bring life to a dull wall. Mix and match photo frames of different sizes or add decorative items that reflect your personality.

7. Rearrange Furniture

Rearranging your furniture can give a space new life. Changing the placement of the furniture can create a different flow and change the way you view a room altogether. This is an easy and inexpensive way to freshen up a room.

8. Put the things you love most on show

Have some beautiful pieces that you keep tucked away so it never is broken?

Well, it's never being enjoyed either.

Put the things you love on display. Always keep in a safe place, but don't lock the things you love away.

In conclusion, these are just a few of the best home decorating tips that I learned from my mother. They are easy to implement and can completely transform the look and feel of your home. Remember, decorating your home should be a fun and creative process, so don’t be afraid to experiment with different elements and see what works best for you!
