Team Nikhil Pattani against period shaming, undertakes THE RED 🔴 DOT CHALLENGE

May 28 is marked as the World Menstrual Hygiene Day. MHD is an annual awareness day to highlight the importance of good menstrual hygiene management. MHD addresses the challenges and hardships many women and girls face during their menstruation. Adequate sanitation facilities and access to feminine hygiene products are one part of the solution. According to sources, 40% women in India miss their daily routine because of severe period pain. #RedDotChallenge aims at promoting menstrual hygiene and inspiring everyone to talk about periods candidly.

Realtor-Blogger Nikhil Pattani along with his team members and family have supported the #RedDot 🔴 campaign to normalise period pain talk for women. The campaign intends to generate widespread awareness around the discomfort caused by a period pain in the life of women and how it restricts them from reaching new heights in various walks of life.

"Let's raise awareness about the challenges regarding access to menstrual products, education about menstruation and period-friendly sanitation facilities."

- Nikhil Pattani

On the occasion, Nikhil Pattani said, "Menstrual Hygiene Day (MH Day) is a global advocacy platform that brings together the voices and actions of non-profits, government agencies, individuals, the private sector and the media to promote good menstrual hygiene management (MHM) for all women and girls."

While talking about the 'Red Dot Challenge', Nikhil said, "It was initiated by the German-based NGO WASH United in 2014 and aims to benefit women and girls worldwide. The 28th was selected to acknowledge that 28 days is the average length of the menstrual cycle."

Notably, Menstrual Hygiene Day breaks the silence, raises awareness and changes negative social norms around MHM, and engages decision-makers to increase the political priority and catalyse action for MHM, at global, national and local levels.

"The genderization of menstruation can cause people who have periods but do not identify as women to feel excluded and uncomfortable. No matter what gender someone identifies as, if they menstruate they need access to hygiene and period-related products. For a transperson who has a period, the normalization of periods as an exclusively female experience isolates them and makes them feel unusual or abnormal. If the only products available to them are labeled and decorated for women, this can contribute to feelings of dysphoria and rejection. In essence, limiting discussion of periods only to women alienates a significant portion of menstruators."
